Have started season 4. Wow a year we have been up and running and can now count ourselves as successful. We have two families started and another two to come in and we are using the fifth garden to start up a childrens garden. The chooks are doing really well though one is broody at present and desparately needs hormone replacment therapy.

MID SEASON 25TH AUGUST 2009We have taken the cloches of as the first sign of spring is here. The growth is awesome compared to gardens without the winter cover. The families are coming in regularly though it looks like we will loose one family soon as they are heading to live in Christchurch. CLOCHE CITY- Season Three BeginsJune 22nd we started season three with five new families. These families have been chosen as they all connect through their children and we hope they will benefit as a family unit. SEASON TWO FINISHESClosed off the second season of the allotments and now we are waiting for the third to start. Its very slow now things arent growing at all we need a glasshouse to speed it all up. Well weve done it again another season finished and very successfully. Its been totally different this time as we have had to grow into winter but all the families have enjoyed it again. well we closed off the allotments last friday 3/2/2009. All in all it was a great success we had four out of the five families go on to garden in there own home, with all children now eating vegies hey never have before and enjoying them. Well here we are at the end of the first season. We have pulled all the plants out of the gardens and said gooodbye to the famlies. It was very sad to see them go, as we have come to enjoy seeing the families arrive at the garden centre and are getting to know them all

Moving on a month down the track how is it all going, well the gardens are huge it totally looks like a jungle and things are starting to naturally die off. We decided fairly soon to try to get some of our regular customers who we knew were not only knowledgeable but also passionate about gardening to become the Mentors for the families, so they become the teachers not me or my staff so much. So far we have signed on two Mentors and they come down to the allotments when they can usually after school finishes and just wait to see if any families come

On the day we had the official opening we were expecting to meet the five families who had been chosen by the Salvation Army, and I thought that we would over the next couple of weeks slowly plant out the allotments. Much to my amazement after we had been introduced to the families and we had introduced our staff, one of the kids asked if he could start planting, the answer was of course yes.
